Low‐velocity impact response and damage tolerance of hybrid biaxial/triaxial braided composite laminates

چکیده

The structural properties of braided composite laminates are significantly affected by the low-velocity impact (LVI). In this paper, resistance and damage tolerance triaxial braid structure at different positions were mainly studied. Three hybrid biaxial (B)/triaxial (T) structures BBTT, BTTB, TTBB designed, LVI test post-impact compression tests carried out. results show that fabric with quasi-isotropic on side caused more significant matrix cracks along axis yarn direction, area delamination larger. For ply high curl levels, severe fiber fracture relatively concentrated occurred first non-impact side. Interestingly, fabrics exhibited better in terms mechanical response when distributed across specimen surface. However, a global pattern appears energy which seriously reduced residual strength showed worst tolerance. quantification analysis cracks, dent depths, compressive shaft number was out work, provided valuable reference for engineering failure rational optimization laminates.

Damage Assessment of Drilled Hybrid Composite Laminates

Hole drilling operations are common in fibre reinforced plastics FRP’s to facilitate fastener assembly to other parts in more complex structures. As these materials are non-homogeneous, drilling causes some damages, like delamination, for example. Delamination can be reduced by a careful selection of drilling parameters, drill material and drill bit geometry. In this work two types of laminates...

Face-on and Edge-on Impact Response of Composite Laminates

This paper presents comprehensive experimental and numerical studies on the face-on and edge-on impact behavior of composite laminates. Experimental work is focused on finding the impact energy limits for barely visible impact damage (BVID) when a laminated composite plate is impacted either on its face or an edge. High-fidelity finite element analysis (FEA) model utilizing Enhanced Schapery th...

Damage and failure in low energy impact of fiber-reinforced polymeric composite laminates

We analyze the damage initiation, damage progression, and failure during 3-dimensional (3-D) elastoplastic deformations of a fiber reinforced polymeric laminated composite impacted by a low speed rigid sphere, and compare computed results with experimental findings available in the literature. Damage is assumed to initiate when one of Hashin’s failure criteria is satisfied, and its evolution is...
